About the Clinic

Welcome to Family Psychological Services.

At Family Psychological Services we provide psychological support across the lifespan. This includes children, adolescents, adults and older adults, as well as couples and families.

Any information that you disclose to your psychologist will be held in the strictest confidence and may only be shared with a third party with your written permission. If you are referred by a doctor or health care professional, we will discuss with you what information will be shared with them. However, there are certain circumstances in which all psychologists are legally required to break confidentiality. Further information as to the limits of confidentiality will be provided to you prior to or during your first session.

Medicare and Private Health Care Rebates

In order to receive a Medicare rebate you will need to be referred by a General Practitioner, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician who will prepare a Mental Health Care Plan in consultation with you. You can see a psychologist without a referral; however Medicare will not provide a rebate for these sessions. Psychology sessions may also be covered under some Private Health Funds.  With appropriate referral, you can receive a Medicare rebate for up to ten individual sessions per calendar year. After six sessions your psychologist is required to send a progress letter to your GP who will consult with you and determine whether you are eligible for a further 4 sessions. You are required to make an appointment with your GP for this assessment.

The cost per session will be discussed with you prior to your first session. The cost will vary depending on whether you are receiving a rebate under Medicare or a Private Health Fund. Private Health Fund rebates can vary.  Please contact your Health Fund to gain more information.

Length of Consultation
